the Word Wizard

From Ancient Tongues to Modern Magic

My story begins in the Loire Valley, where the French countryside first kindled my love affair with languages.

After I graduated in 1981, I crossed paths with a Yorkshire knight who became my partner in adventures.

From the literary streets of Dublin to the scholarly halls of Cambridgeshire (where I founded TRADWISE PLUS in 1989), and through the characterful landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales and Cumbria, each place added new colours to my linguistic palette.

These experiences shaped my understanding of how language and culture intertwine, creating the foundation for my approach to language services.

Sticking to Values

My quest for excellence led me to pass the examination of the British Institute of Translation & Interpreting in 1992, and I remain a member to this day.

Since then, I’ve woven words for a rich tapestry of clients – from global corporations to grassroots NGOs – focusing my expertise on the vital narratives of our time: sustainable development, regenerative agriculture, climate change, and water resources.

Bridging Two Worlds

In 2005, life came full circle as we returned to France, while keeping our connections alive in Penrith, UK.

This dual presence became more than just a business strategy – it emerged as a perfect embodiment of cross-cultural bridge-building.

The Art of Staying Current

My journey of learning never ends.

Through advanced studies with UNITAR and the Middlebury Institute, I continuously sharpen my skills. My membership in the ITI SHEA network (Sustainability, Horticulture, Environment and Agriculture) keeps me at the forefront of developments in sustainable development, agriculture, and environmental issues.

As a forward-thinking language professional, I combine traditional expertise with cutting-edge AI capabilities.

My services include expert machine translation post-editing (MTPE) and context-aware translation enhanced by Large Language Models (LLMs) that I’ve trained to align with my professional style and standards.

I also harness AI technology for transcreation projects, where cultural sensitivities demand more than direct translation.

The “Plus” in Tradwïse Plus reflects this commitment to going beyond conventional translation, delivering nuanced content that truly resonates with target audiences.

Sharing the Gift of Language
Sharing the Gift of Language

My passion for languages cast its spell beyond translation, leading to an invitation to teach at my local cultural association, where I now guide others through the delights and pitfalls of English.

I also offer private French or English language coaching to diverse learners, from business professionals to individuals rekindling their language skills.

Coming together

As an avid ornithologist, I’ve completed comprehensive training through the Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux (LPO) and regularly engage with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB).

I bring a unique perspective to environmental and conservation content.

While I’m still working on my warbler dialect, I’m committed to bird protection…

My love for language and creative expression has also led me to participate in writing workshops and slam poetry groups, to feed my creative spirit, honing the art of transcreation – that delicate balance between faithful translation and creative reimagining.
